Toshiba and Fujitsu launch world's first Mango smartphone

Posted by rdian33 on 2:04 PM in
Toshiba has made a few smartphones over the past few years, but the company has now got together with Fujitsu to launch the world’s first Mango Windows Phone handset – the Windows Phone IS12T. Available in a range of colours, it’s packed with features, and should be a decent alternative if you don’t fancy an Android or iOS smartphone.
Called the Fujitsu Toshiba Windows Phone IS12T, the latest smartphone from Toshiba and Fujitsu looks set to be the world’s first Mango device. It features a 3.7-inch display, and it offers some pretty impressive features.
There’s a 13.2-megapixel camera for a start, although whether the huge numbers can deliver Nokia N8-beating photographs remains to be seen. There’s also 32GB of internal storage, so you’re unlikely to run out of space when you start importing music or taking lots of snaps or video clips.
Other features on the Fujitsu Toshiba Windows Phone IS12T include Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and GPS, with six-axis motion sensing. It’s even waterproof and resistant to dust!
At present, the IS12T is a Japan-only handset, but with both CDMA andGSM technology it could also make an appearance over here at some point in the future.

Olympus PEN E-PL3

Posted by rdian33 on 2:03 PM in
We love a decent camera as much as the next man, and it looks like the new Olympus PEN E-PL3 Micro Four Thirds offering could be with us in the near future. With a desirable design, top-notch build quality and a great set of features, we can’t wait to get out hands on the E-PL3.
The Olympus E-PL3 is the latest camera in the tiny PEN range, offering a high quality alternative to compact cameras. You’ll be able to switch lenses to suit your subject matter, yet with no internal mirrors like a DSLRthe E-PL3 is a lot smaller.
Images should match the high quality design, thanks to a range of decent lenses and a large 12.3-megapixel MOS sensor. The E-PL3 is capable of shooting at up to 12,800 ISO, although how grainy images get at such a high speed remains to be seen.
The 3-inch screen can be tilted, so you’ll be able to take photographs from loads of different angles, or film concerts while viewing your efforts from arm’s length.
You’ll be able to get the Olympus PEN E-PL3 with two different lenses, with a 14-42mm lens offering a zoom and wide-angle option. If you only intend to take close up photographs, the compact 17mm pancake lens will also be available, keeping the E-PL3 as small as possible.
The Olympus PEN E-PL3 hits the shops in the US in September, so fingers crossed it’ll launch here too in the next few months. It’s set to cost £550 when it does.

Asus Eee Pad Transformer gets Android 3.2 Honeycomb update

Posted by rdian33 on 1:32 PM

We absolutely love the Asus Eee Pad Transformer – it’s well made, speedy and truly innovative – but the operating system is one area that lets it down slightly. It’s not bad, but it could definitely be improved. Thankfully, Asus is on the case, and the Eee Pad Transformer is set to get an update to Android 3.2 Honeycomb today.

Out of all the tablets we’ve seen in the past year, the Asus Eee Pad Transformer definitely features the most impressive hardware, with a keyboard that turns it effortlessly into a mini laptop. When you don’t fancy writing, or having the smallest and lightest computer is more important, just detach the screen and take it out on its own.
The software on the Eee Pad Transformer isn’t quite so good though. It’s occasionally unintuitive, and it still feels like Android is better suited to smartphones. Thankfully, there are lots of updates for Android, and Asus has been quicker than most to implement them.
The last update for the Eee Pad Transformer was released at the beginning of June, but you’ll now be able to download Android 3.2 Honeycomb for your tablet – proving just how quickly Asus work. Whether you’ll be able to download the latest version of Android irrespective of what area you live in – or whether updates are just starting today – remains to be seen.
